The 30-hour, self-paced online courses feature interactive learning aids that enhance user understanding of key concepts and improve knowledge retention. A comprehensive exam prep and simulation containing hundreds of questions with remediation and feedback are also included in all courses.

The Life and Health insurance pre-licensing course surveys life, accident and health insurance principles and concepts common to all state producer licensing exams, giving students relevant information about health, accident and disability insurance, contract law, health insurance providers, health insurance policies, government programs, private insurance plans for seniors, underwriting and premiums, group health insurance and the uses of health insurance.

The Property and Casualty course surveys property and casualty insurance principles and concepts common to all state producer licensing exams, giving students relevant information about industry regulation, underwriting, property insurance, personal lines, commercial lines, inland marine, commercial floaters and federal programs, crime insurance and bonds, and workers' compensation.

Insurance Pre-licensing courses are intended for licensing examination preparation only. No pre-licensing course credit will be granted for completion.

Virginia State Requirements

Continuing Education Hours
Virginia regulation requires that all resident agents complete 16 hours of CE every two years for single licenses; 24 hours of CE (with at least 8 hours in each license type) for agents who hold two or more licenses.

Continuing Education Compliance Date
CE hours are due December 31 of all even numbered years.

Types of courses accepted for CE Credit
• Self-study
• Classroom study
• On line courses.

Course Subject Requirements

•A minimum of 2 hours of CE credit must be related to insurance laws & regulations.

Carryover Requirements
“Carryover Credits” are credits that you accumulate during this biennium even though you did not need them for compliance for the current biennium. Such “excess” credits can be carried over to the next biennium for credit, subject to a few very important requirements:

• Credits may only be carried over for ONE biennium. If you don’t use them in the next biennium, they expire.
• You MUST file them by the deadline for the biennium in which you took them. That is, if you completed a course by December 31, 2006, even though you don’t need it for the 2005-2006 biennium, you MUST file it by the same filing deadlines as if you did need the credits for the 2005-2006 biennium.
• Once the filing deadline has passed, and assuming you are otherwise compliant for the 2005-2006 biennium, Thomson Prometric will send you a letter reminding you of how many carryover credits (and what kinds) you had from the 2005-2006 biennium, along with instructions as to how to make sure you get credit for these carryover credits applied for the 2007-2008 biennium. You must make a complete submission by the end of this biennium, including the fee.
• You can only receive credit once for courses taken in any biennium. Duplicate courses taken during a biennium may NOT be used for CE credit within the same biennium, nor may the credits be carried over to the next biennium. It is, however, possible for you to take the same course in the next biennium and get credit for it if you wish to complete the same course in separate biennia.

Final Exam
Self-study courses must have a completion exam.

Course Repetition
Courses may not be repeated in the same renewal period.
