Alaska State Requirements

Insurance Pre-Licensing Exam Preparation

The 30-hour, self-paced online courses feature interactive learning aids that enhance user understanding of key concepts and improve knowledge retention. A comprehensive exam prep and simulation containing hundreds of questions with remediation and feedback are also included in all courses.

The Life and Health insurance pre-licensing course surveys life, accident and health insurance principles and concepts common to all state producer licensing exams, giving students relevant information about health, accident and disability insurance, contract law, health insurance providers, health insurance policies, government programs, private insurance plans for seniors, underwriting and premiums, group health insurance and the uses of health insurance.

The Property and Casualty course surveys property and casualty insurance principles and concepts common to all state producer licensing exams, giving students relevant information about industry regulation, underwriting, property insurance, personal lines, commercial lines, inland marine, commercial floaters and federal programs, crime insurance and bonds, and workers' compensation.

Insurance Pre-licensing courses are intended for licensing examination preparation only. No pre-licensing course credit will be granted for completion.

Alaska State Requirements

Continuing Education Hours
Twenty-four (24) CE credit hours are required biennially to renew a license. 16 hours must be taken in lines for which license is held.

Continuing Education Compliance Date
Same as license renewal date.

License Renewal Date
Agents whose year of birth is an odd-numbered year will renew biennially on their birth date in odd-numbered years and agents whose year of birth is an even-numbered year will renew biennially on their birth date in even-numbered years. Agent's expiration date will appear on their license. The Insurance Division will send a renewal form to the agent 60 days prior to their renewal date.

Type of courses accepted for CE Credit
Independent self-study courses, classroom or video/electronic courses

Course Subject Requirements
16 hours must be taken in lines for which license is held.

Carryover Requirements
A maximum of eight credit hours may be carried over to the next reporting period.

Course Repetition
Credit will not be given for courses that are repeated.

Final Exam
Self-study final exams are not required to be monitored.

Exemptions
• Any person licensed less than two years at the time of the first license renewal.
• Any nonresident who submits evidence satisfactory to the director that the licensee has satisfied any CE requirement in their resident state.
• Any person who was licensed with this division prior to January 1, 1980.
• Any person holding a temporary license or a limited lines, retired, or travel license.
